How will the New iPad Screen Affect my Website?

Talking again about the “Feature” the amazing retina display for the new iPad.  While playing games such as Angry Birds the display is great, but how about my website that was originally designed at 1024 x 768?  The iPad is at 2,048-x-1,536-pixel display.  And if you designed your site at the 800 x 600 format– uh forget about it.  Of course there is the option of pinching with your fingers to zoom in, that may help. Would you design your business’s site to fit the New iPad dimensions.  Or do you ride it out until more products use a display at such a high level.  As of now I still will design at 1024 x 768 pixels – if the majority of screens reach iPads’ 2,048 x 1536 then yes I will redesign myself and recommend all of my customers to use this new dimension as the standard.

Weighing in at 1.5 lbs with a 9.7in display Apple revealed the iPad at the keynote January 27, 2010 – I was like another money making product from Apple and does anyone really need this.  Yes I was skeptical.  So I’ve taken some time and researched it’s benefits a bit and can only think of 3 major benefits to me.

1. Reading digital books, magazines.  Finally I will be able to read local newspapers and e-books.  Have you tried reading them on your iphone yet? It’s not easy.

2. The Maps application looks so good.  Again instead of a small GPS screen you could have your ipad sitting on the seat next to you with a nice big map pointing you in the right direction.

3. Memory and battery life. The iPad has a 10 hour battery life, nuff said. (See my earlier posts on the iphone)

Will I rush out to buy this? Not at this time but I am sure I will see a lot of users hitting the local coffee shops with their new ipads surfing.
